Different Types of Bearings and their Uses

The main function of a bearing is to reduce the friction and stress in rotational and linear movements. Bearing are generally little wheels over which, a device is rolled or moved. These wheels come between the surface of the body, which is rolled and the surface of the bearing. While reducing the friction, it increases the speed and efficiency of the work. Bearing can be divided on the basis of their load handling capacity. Generally, bearing are designed to handle thrust or radial load or some are made to handle both.

Ball bearing is very common bearing, which are used to handle both radial and thrust load. They can also handle small weight. These bearing are used in large number of application from use in cycles to uses such as roller blades. But these bearing cannot handle the weight as they can get deformed.

Roller bearings are made to handle heavy load or weight. The roller bearing can be in form of cylinder. This shape of cylinder spreads the load in large area thus enabling the bearing to carry the heavy load. These bearings work in small diameters and can easily fit in the smaller applications.
