Bearing is a
rotating device that is used to reduce friction while allowing linear and
rotational movements. Resembling small wheels, bearings literally allow a
machine to roll over it for smooth function. The friction is reduced between
the bearing and the surface which is rolled over it. The uses of bearings,
while reducing friction enhance speed and efficiency.
Bearings are
basically made of small ball that have smooth surfaces both on internal and
external front. The bearings themselves carry the load of the weight. It is the
load of the surface which rotates the bearings. The loading on the bearings are
not the same and the loading is of two types, radial and thrust.
In radial
load, like that of a pulley, the weight on the bearings causes it to rotate and
roll. In thrust load, the stress on bearings is on entirely different way. Some bearings are designed to carry both
radial and thrust load. The tries of car are both used to carry radial and
thrust load. Bearings can be divided into different kinds depending on the type
of load they are made to carry and the amount of that load.
